My Tricks for Finding Motivation on the Mat – Radiant Bliss Yoga

Let’s be honest, some days the couch calls louder than the yoga mat. Excuses like “I’m too tired,” or “There’s not enough time” become our go-to mantras. But deep down, we know that succumbing to that inner resistance only creates a vicious cycle of missed practices.

On those days, I’ve learned to dig deeper. I reconnect with the initial spark that ignited my love for yoga: the desire for strength, flexibility, tranquility, or simply a challenge. I visualize how invigorated and centered I feel after a practice – that’s my fuel to overcome the initial hurdle.

I’ve also discovered that lowering the barrier to entry works wonders. I lay out my mat in an inviting space, maybe with a soft candle flickering nearby. I slip into comfortable clothes that beckon movement. Sometimes, I even start with a few simple stretches on the floor, coaxing my body into the familiar rhythm.

Once on the mat, something magical happens. Muscle memory takes over, the resistance fades, and I begin to flow through the asanas. It’s like returning to a beloved sanctuary, a space where I reconnect with myself.

And even if the practice itself is challenging, I always emerge feeling immensely grateful. I’ve gifted myself time for movement, presence, and self-care. It’s a feeling that transcends any initial resistance, a reward well worth overcoming those pesky excuses.

So, if you’re wrestling with your own motivational demons, remember these three steps:

  1. Reconnect with your why: Remember what drew you to yoga in the first place and how it makes you feel.
  2. Make it easy: Set up a welcoming environment and wear comfortable clothing that inspires movement.
  3. Just start: Even a few simple stretches can ignite the spark and get you flowing.

Remember, you’ve got this. The hardest part is stepping onto the mat. Once you’re there, the magic of yoga will take over.
